Introducing Victor

The guy with 11 mobile phones!
This is Victor
Victor agreed to take part in my ethnographic research project and as he only lives down the road from me decided to meet @ mine so I could interview him.
He sits down on the sofa and discusses what he has been up to lately which included work, socialising with friends and looking for a job that fits with his degree.
Victor likes to socialise with friends and will go out and do things outside the house as much as possible. This also gives him space as he lives with his parents and 3 siblings. When he does go out he enjoys bowling, playing pool, American football, orange Wednesdays at the cinema, clubbing and eating fast food.
Victor doesn’t pay rent where he lives so his wages he earns at his part time job in a leisure centre goes towards his phone bill, travel and socialising with friends. He is currently saving up to buy a car in the summer. Victor claims that all of his spending is cautious.

One of the places he loves spending time in is his university. Even though he has graduated he liked to go back as much as possible to see friends and keep up the lifestyle he had a student as he feels lost now he isn’t a part of that any more. He has spent a small amount of time job hunting for a career with his degree but has had no luck finding anything and therefore does small jobs like promoting for clubs to earn extra cash (even though most of the time it goes back into the club on drinks).

His favourite clubs include: Penthouse, Carbon, Traffic Bar, Eve and Ministry of Sound. He likes rnb, bashment (dancehall), funky house, hip hop, rap and blues music and some of his favourite artists include Donnell Jones, Michel Jackson, Usher and Busta Rhymes.

Victor mainly wears sports clothing as he says it feels comfortable and its easy to put together as well as the fact that he plays a lot of sport and works out at the gym regularly. He has just recently lost a lot of weight so he claims that he is starting to experiment more with clothing lately and can wear more fitted garments and look smarter. His favourite brands are Nike and Addidas.
Victor carries around a small bag which he keeps his phones in as well as his money and keys and comb. He says that he gets his hair done by anyone that will do it for free as he doesn’t like paying for it because it doesn’t last that long without getting messy. He takes pride in his appearance and loves wearing shorts and t-shirts in the hot weather. He has been known to wear socks with sandals. His dress code to me says fun and daring with the colours but still casual. He says that he has quite a few pairs of trainers but most of them are old or out of style.

Victor likes to go shopping in Primark, Nike town, Matalan, Sports Soccer and some Italian boutiques near where he lives in Lewisham. He loves his sports brands but can rarely afford them so he shops in discounters to get more for his money. He will go on a splurge every now and then on clothes and finds himself wanting to go shopping more then he thinks a man should. He recently bought a brown leather jacket from his friend for £20 and it is his favourite piece of clothing at the moment.

Victor normally buys clothing for the quality and comfort factors as well as the price. He has all kinds of accessories in his room including belts, bracelets, chains, hats, scarves and gloves. He claims that most of the clothing he has at the moment he has had for ages. He would love to be able to buy designer clothing but will wait until he is earning lost of money.

My impressions of Victor are that he is a down to earth guy who is always on the go and never without something to do. Because of this lifestyle it could be easy to market products to him relating to reliability and performance. He will buy into products if they are fashionable, popular and will fit in to his not so scheduled routine. Products sold to him will have to be durable, look stylish and be easy to set up and work straight away.
